Happy Weekend

So happy weekend to you all!!! I've got one more week left of training before returning to the center for the last few days! So it's all starting to come together... yikes! Yesterday I was really really close to being able to watch some olympics. I was with another trainee at my house and we asked my host family in Hassaniya (the arabic dialect) if we could watch the olympics on tv. They got the biggest kick outta that and they were so excited that we were able to ask and such. They sent one of the kids to go set up the tv... and the power strip was broke. darnit! So close!!!! But they went and got a new power strip... so maybe today???????

And here's the latest on the coup from where we're at. Today there's a demonstration/march in our town in support of the coup. It's pre-arranged and everything, and I'm fairly confident that it will be airing on the national television tonight. There are apparently some anti-coup demonstrations in the capital, but those are very quiet and never aired on tv or in the news. Everything is very peaceful though... it's just to show support for the new government. We were going to try to do a run out to some of the people en bruisse today, but PC said we couldn't because of the political situation. Basically we would have to pass a gendarmiee stop, and the police wouldn't really need to let us through. On other news... pretty much all non-humanitarian aid has been cut from the US and EU. Today the US has been threatening to cut more aid... whatever that means. So that's the latest...
