Stories...

Okay, story time. So this is a story about a girl named Tessa, who happens to be my lovely site-mate. She wanted to try to make Mauritanian Chubujin real Mauritanian style (it’s fish, rice, and veggies). We didn’t have a recipe… but our families made that stuff every single day in Rosso! Plus we can always go ask someone, and they love to tell you how to do it! So we went to the market, got the fish and veggies and other necessities… went back to my place because my stove isn’t on the ground anymore and began to cook. Well first step is to get the oil real hot to cook the fish (you use a TON of oil for this dish… seriously like half of that veggie oil bottle you have on your shelf). Fish went fine… cooked real fast… then she went to add some water to the oil (bad idea) and BOOM!!!!! Flames explode out of the pot all the way up the side of the wall! Seriously 5ft flames! It only lasted a second, but that was enough time for the two of us to flip out and start screaming (cause I was just walking into the kitchen when this all happened). So quick turned off the gas… and learned to never ever add water to hot hot oil.

Next story (from the same day). We’re sitting out under my lumbar (on my very colorful mat), and Tessa says… wow… look at those cool clouds… I wonder… could that be a dust storm you think??? I look up and I’m think wow YEAH! COOL!!! First reaction is not to remove the electronic devices from outside in, nor to begin cleaning up the yard in anticipation of the high winds and sand that will be blown everywhere… rather to grab my camera (Shannon you should be proud of me!!). So here are some pretty cool pictures of our first awesome dust storm (There was a smaller one a few weeks ago that wasn’t as cool). Dave and Brent… I bet you guys are pretty darn jealous! I didn’t even have to chase these storms… they came right to me!
Here's the sandstorm coming in...

Here we were peaking out my kitchen door to get a look... the sky was seriously RED!! So weird!

And then it turned black, like night! The speckles are the sand in the wind. P.S... it's actually 5 in the afternoon at the time this picutre was taken!

And a little later, you can see the really red sky... this is taken out the window up into the sky. So strange!
